About: Dr. Black’s research has focused on the toxicity of emerging contaminants (pharmaceuticals and nanomaterials) as single compounds and in mixtures in both laboratory and field investigations. Her lab investigates the roles of natural organic matter (NOM) and co-contaminants in modulating toxicity of carbon nanomaterials and pharmaceuticals. Traditional and novel biomarkers (e.g., metabolomics) are employed to assess exposure and effects of emerging contaminants under various environmental scenarios.
