RBC Hosts Species Status Assessment Workshop

Dr. Angela Romito of the USFWS walks UGA faculty, staff, and students through the structured-decision making process.

Dr. Angela Romito, a Biologist and Decision Analyst with the Ecological Services unit of the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Atlanta, gave a half-day workshop on the USFWS’s process for developing Species Status Assessments at the RBC on December 12th. This training is being developed specifically for academic and state-agency biologists who provide the data for SSAs, which are conducted as part of the listing process under the Endangered Species Act. This process is particularly important here in the Southeast, due to the number of species currently petitioned for listing, and the biologists who attended from the RBC, the USGS, and the Warnell School are all working with listed or candidate species.
