Spencer Grants Awarded
The River Basin Center is pleased to announce the winners of the first John Spencer Research Grants competition for graduate students. Nicole Peterson, UGA College of Engineering, and Courtney Balling, Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, each were awarded $2000 for their research proposals.
Ms. Peterson’s project is “Modeling effects of anthropogenic barriers on salt marsh migration under sea level rise in coastal Georgia.” Ms. Balling is studying “Edge Effects of Bulkheads and Living Shorelines in Tidally Influenced Rivers – An Assessment of Structure-from-Motion as a Tool for Monitoring Bank Erosion.”
We also thank Drs. Amy Rosemond, Todd Rasmussen, and Don Nelson for reviewing the proposals. We had six proposals, all very high quality. This is the first of what we intend to be an annual competition, with two proposals of up to $2000 each to be funded every year.
