Upcoming Third Wednesday: Plastics Panel and Poster Exhibition
The River Basin Center’s final Third Wednesday Symposium of the fall semester will be a workshop discussing the issues surrounding plastic debris in the environment, especially in our oceans. Since plastics are a relatively new artificial material, research into their effects on marine systems is essential so we can understand how environments will be impacted.
Join us next Wednesday, Nov. 15th, at 4 pm for a panel discussion with plastics experts followed by a poster session and reception from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The panel will take place in the Odum School of Ecology Auditorium.
The panel will feature Maia McGuire, who researches microplastics with the Sea Grant extension at the University of Florida; Jenna Jambeck, who pioneers citizen science for marine debris at the UGA College of Engineering; Branson Ritchie, who studies marine plastic impacts at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine; and Katy Smith, who is involved in plastic waste outreach and education through the UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. After the panel, please stick around to learn about current related research at UGA during the poster session.
If you are an undergraduate or graduate student with related research, consider presenting a poster. Contact Rebecca Atkins at email@example.com. Deadline November 10th.
