The 2026 John Kyle Spencer 5K kicked off Family Day at the Odum School on Saturday, Feb. 21. Congrats to Gideon Zemedhun, who studies computer science, and Charles Wu, who majors in statistics, economics and management information systems, took first and second place.

The race honors the memory of John Spencer, a graduate student in the University of Georgia’s Odum School of Ecology and River Basin Center, who studied urban streams and was passionate about freshwater ecology, conservation and ecological restoration.

This year’s race was rescheduled from earlier in the year due to ice and snow and served to kick off Family Day at the Odum School of Ecology.
