Krista Capps, the associate director of the River Basin Center and an associate professor at Odum School of Ecology, was named the vice president of the Society for Freshwater Science (SFS) at the group’s 2026 annual meeting in May in Spokane, Washington.

Capps, who will take office at the group’s annual meeting in Omaha, Neb., next year, will serve with Dave Costello, a professor at Kent State University and the 2027 SFS president.

The Society for Freshwater Science (SFS) is a premier international organization of aquatic scientists. Its members study freshwater organisms, biotic communities, physical processes that affect ecosystem function, linkages between freshwater ecosystems and surrounding landscapes, habitat and water quality assessment, and conservation and restoration. SFS fosters the exchange of scientific information among its membership and with other professional societies, resource managers, policymakers, educators, and the public.
