Katy Smith manages the Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant’s water quality program based in Brunswick, Georgia. She provides education, outreach, and service-learning opportunities to engage the public in marine stewardship. She partners with coastal organizations to conduct workshops and develop outreach campaigns and action plans to address water quality and environmental challenges. In her extension role, Smith provides technical assistance for Sea Grant researchers and coastal resource managers and enjoys translating scientific information into engaging and informative content for people of all ages. Smith’s areas of interest include marine debris, coastal stewardship, coastal and estuarine water quality, the role of freshwater wetlands in the coastal landscape, and the impacts of bacteria and other types of pollution on environmental and human health.
